Day 340 - 343: Read a few scripts of the TV show Modern Family at: http://www.zen134237.zen.co.uk/Modern_Family/. I was actually laughing at loud while reading these episodes which lets you know just how funny the material really is.

Day 311: Went to Power Group at TAN followed by coffee with Y'vonne. I swear there are some people in this world who always make you feel better when you're in their presence, she is one of them.

Day 312: The block schedule I created isn't working for me so now I'm trying something new. Today I took my monthly goals that I shared in Power Group and divided them up week by week to make sure I do the tasks needed to help me meet those goals.

Day 313 -  314: Updated my regional rep target list by using IMDb Pro to find all the agents whose clients were on the last few episodes of VH1's Single Ladies, CW's Vampire Diaries and BET's The Game, Let's Stay Together and Reed Between the Lines since they all shoot in Atlanta.
Day 277: Monologue search for an upcoming audition for a high school educational theater program. Perusing YouTube I found "Reasons to be Pretty" by Neil LaBute for my dramatic piece and "Promedy" by Wade Bradford for my comedic piece. Since it's on YouTube I run the risk of both of these being overdone but since I'm on a time crunch that's a chance I'll have to take.

Day 274: Coffee with Aisha Lomax at a very quaint cafe called Larchmont Bungalow. Always good to catch up with a friend. Hopefully we'll have a chance to work together in front of the camera soon. In the meantime, we're both racking our brains to find 2 contrasting monologues from published plays that are appropriate enough to be performed in front of high school students {that takes The Mercy Seat off the list} without being overdone. Not so easy when you don't read new plays on a regular basis. I'm sure my New York colleagues would find this task a breeze but since most actors out here are reading screenplays instead, it's a little daunting.

Day 275: Audition for www.christianeducation.com. This was held at the ad agency's office rather than with a casting director. The session runner was really sweet and it's always nice to have an opportunity to audition for something faith-based. Afterwards I went to my internship where I'm continuing to build relationships with the people who work in that casting office.
Day 270: Decided to find a dramatic monologue to add to my arsenal so I hit up YouTube and started wading through a mixture of greatness and pure crap. Eventually I remembered seeing a scene back in my college debate team days that really gripped me. It was from The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute and it's about a rocky relationship between a mistress and the man she loves who is finally given an opportunity to leave his wife guilt-free*. Since I really didn't feel like making the trek to Samuel French to see if they had it in stock, I searched for it on YouTube and found 2 that I liked. Warning- the language is explicit in the first one...

Now I have to actually buy the play (it's worth it) so I can comb through it and see if there is any other way I want to piece either of these monologues together for future use.

*No of course there is no such thing as leaving your wife & kids guilt-free but you'll see what I mean when you read this play.
Day 264 - 265: Read the "Good Will Hunting" screenplay that Tara let me borrow. I thought I'd seen this film before but apparently I've only watched bits and pieces because everything seemed new to me. I understand why they won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay- it's a very easy read.

Day 89: I wrote the treatment for the PGA Diversity Workshop! Well, let me rewind for a second. Since I didn't get a response from the email I sent a few days ago, I decided to do some online investigating {thank goodness for cheating exes who are the reason I developed this skill in the first place} and I was able to find the facebook page of the mother. I sent her a message there and included my email address and the next day she emailed me the following:

Good morning Ms. Ford.  I am *******, *******'s mother.  I appreciate you reaching out to me with the goal of doing a documentary on *******.

I, along with my sister *******, would like to meet with you to discuss your idea.  I will be staying in the Los Angeles area from 4/2/11 - 4/9/11, and would love to meet with you in person to discuss further.  My sister will contact you today or tomorrow to discuss some particulars and set up a date, time, and location to meet, because today and tomorrow I will be unreachable.

I truly look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

*******

Well that email gave me hope so I headed over to Google to help me figure out how to write this treatment. First I read bits and pieces of the highly informative "How to Write a Documentary Script" by Trisha Das. Skimmed over the things I already knew and honed in on new information. Took notes on the important points that stuck out to me so that I'd have them at my fingertips when needed. Then I googled "Documentary Treatment Examples" and that helped out even more. By midnight I was done.

Now on to writing the 2 page synopsis and an Artist Statement about why I want to participate...
Day 86: Used IMDb Pro to research managers. When I saw the names of friends & colleagues who were repped by the managers on my list I then emailed them for their insight. Some gave glowing recommendations, others warned me to stay away and find someone better. In the end I now have a list of 36 managers who I am interested in learning more about.

8 of them are my top choices since they not only have a client list that seems to be working but they also have a production arm which is very important to me since I want to do more producing in the future.

13 of them don't produce but are still legit managers {at least on paper} with a working client list that isn't too large.

Finally 15 of them have a larger client list than I'd prefer or they already have 1 person who is my type but are still managers I've taken an interest in. These are the ones who I will simply keep an eye on to see how things change over time. Though I am making 1 exception and will be submitting to one person in this category based on both a CD and a colleague's recommendation of her work ethic, attitude and reputation.

Obviously I was looking at multiple manager & actor IMDb Pro profiles in order to research thoroughly and apparently that's monitored because I got this email a few hours later...

Day 80: Took a trip to the post office to send out my headshots to 8 commercial agents. Would've been a lot easier to leave in my mailbox but my mailwoman isn't always reliable. Didn't want to take the chance that they'd still be sitting there on Wednesday. Had lunch with Rayshell at a sushi bar on the westside once the rain died down. We caught each other up on the projects we're working on as well as what's going on in our personal lives over yummy steamed shrimp dumplings. Afterwards, and what I'm very excited about is that I finished reading Bitch Is The New Black. I'm not gonna review the book since I'm not a critic but I will say that it was both hilarious and real and the chapters "Bridge to Nowhere" and "The New B Word" had me cosigning more than once. I know the author is just beginning to write the screenplay so it could be quite a while before it ever reaches the casting stage but I will definitely be keeping an eye on it. #OperationGetOnTheirRadar is in full effect.
