Day 171: Natural Foods Commercial Callback- Always funny to audition in a room full of people. This one went well. Commercial drop-off at Michael Sanford Casting, it was near my callback so why not?
Documentary Meeting.
Website Wednesday- took care of updates.

Day 172: Lunch with Leshelle, a friend of mine who's just got promoted to PR Director for Tavis Smiley's book division and is moving to New York next month to get started. Congrats girl!
McDonald's Commercial Audition at Kathy Knowles Casting. Was paired up with a guy who I had really good chemistry with so I fully expected a callback!

Day 173: McDonald's Commercial Callback- this wasn't nearly as smooth as the audition. We were brought in in groups of 5 and one of the girls I had to interact with was a hot mess. I don't know any other way to say it. She was needy and gave so many excuses as to why she didn't bring what they asked for and talked a mile a minute about irrelevant crap to the session runner right before he said action. We were supposed to do some improv and then say our lines and I had to keep feeding her her opening line and it was just... irritating. I'm sure there was something I could've done better too but in the moment I was just thrown off by her weirdness. Of course, in this industry there's no rhyme or reason to any of this so she could easily book this spot and leave me scratching my head wondering what the hell they were looking for in the first place.
Day 146 - 147: Took the weekend off to enjoy my college roomie's wedding. No phone calls or emails that were business related, just fully enjoyed spending time with friends that I haven't seen since this time last year. And I had a wonderful time!

Man it was wonderful seeing my old friends again - laughing, catching up, eating great food and enjoying the awesome Happy Hours that Houston has to offer. Though it was great to reconnect with people who have known me for so long, I laughed at how differently I felt the last time I was in Houston. Last year I wasn't too excited when I came back to Cali because we were living in Long Beach at the time and I was just so lonely and {felt} friendless remember? But this time around I couldn't wait to get back to the hustle and bustle of LA and to people who understand the craziness of this business and yet still want to do nothing else. What a difference a year makes!

  1. Law & Order: Los Angeles
  2. Grey's Anatomy
  3. Drop Dead Diva*
  4. Pretty Little Liars
  5. True Blood
  6. House of Payne*
  7. Single Ladies*
  8. Vampire Diaries*
  9. The Young & The Restless
And the following films...
  1. Good Deeds
  2. Untitled Tupac Shakur Project*
  3. American Reunion: American Pie 4*
  4. Soul Ties
* indicates it shoots in Atlanta

Later in the day I went to the CBS Radford studio to support my friends screening. Lex {whom I often discuss on this blog} was the cinematographer of a very cute short film called Brownie Points. Jenn Page directed it and Sheila Daley starred. Another film that screened was a beautifully touching short called A Note to Etienne that Allison Vanore produced. Congrats all around guys! Very well done.
I'm proud to say today we premiere the pilot episode of Millie's 101 Things! Created and starring high school classmate Desiree Abeyta, this is the first thing I've helped produce that I'm not actually in and I must say I want to do more! If you like romantic comedies or have ever been dumped unexpectedly and had to bounce back then this show is for you...

Happy birthday to Desiree! And congrats to the entire Millie Team!

Email subscribers can watch by going to Millie's 101 Things Pilot Episode.

Yesterday I had my first pilot audition for a guest star/possible recurring role. I read my sides as well as the entire episode and really liked the script so I did my best to prepare. The audition was at Cazt and it went very well! I was comfortable with the character and confident in the room, a far departure from the way I felt when I auditioned there back in August. The four auditioners seemed to like my read so I'm hoping they liked it enough to warrant a callback. We'll see.

Today was a beautiful, sunny productive Saturday. It started off wrong though, as I was supposed to attend a free CD seminar with Matthew Barry that LA Casting produces every month. I was late {my family would say that's the story of my life} but come on, WHY IS THERE TRAFFIC IN LA ON A SATURDAY?!? I didn't want to be rude and walk in the seminar a half hour after it began so I decided to go to the Samuel French bookstore on Sunset instead. Great idea! I stayed there for about 2 hours reading a few things and even bought 2 new books- all of which I've added to the Recommended Reading section of this blog.

Afterwards I headed over to The Counter in Studio City for lunch with fellow LVA Alum Baron Vaughn. Baron is a hilarious comic who is seriously on the come up. He just booked a pilot as a series regular that was recently picked up by USA called Facing Kate, so woo-hoo for him! We had a great meal {super fattening and DELICIOUS} and he offered a ton of generous advice for which I am thankful. The main point I took away from our meeting was to start submitting my headshot to theatrical CD's NOW rather than wait until I have an agent or manager. I was on the fence about this because I didn't want to waste my money mailing my photos if CD's wouldn't give me a second look since I don't have any rep or real credits yet but he stressed to me that a lot of them won't care about that if I'm right for what they're looking for and he gave me some examples to prove it. Well that's all I needed to hear! I had just purchased a subscription to Casting About a few days ago anyhow so I'm going to put it to good use on Monday and start my first round of targeted casting director submissions!

After lunch I wrapped up my day by heading to USC for a student film audition. This one went alright, not great and not bad, just alright, so once again we'll see.

Up for tomorrow: Visiting a new church {we're looking for a church home that has a great children's program in case you know of any} and then meeting with a potential co-producer for my webseries who has read the pilot episode and is really interested in coming on board.

After my February audition break it feels great to have some momentum going!

Major props to my TSU friend Trecia and her X-Treme Motion crew who performed on the Season 5 premiere of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, otherwise known by it's loyal fans as ABDC. I was rooting for this crew because all of the members are former MOTION majorettes and so am I. For those of you unfamiliar with the term majorette {don't worry before I moved to Houston I was too!} they are the young ladies who dance in front of the marching bands of HBCU's. And by dance I mean they GET DOWN! If you've seen Drumline you have an idea. Just watching them on TV last night made me get up and do some old 8-counts- and promptly sit down as my energy level isn't anywhere near their's anymore. :-)

Take a look...

Although they were eliminated in this round I am VERY proud of them for making it this far and look forward to what they have to show the world in the future.

Congrats ladies!
